Football roundup of the week.

Hello guys !Its been a long time since my previous post.I was busy in my semester exams.Thank God exams have concluded after such a long period. So will be regular from nowon. But I didnt miss out out on my regular dose of football action just because of the exams.

Rooney had huge impact inthe first half scoring boththe goals.
RVP celebrating after free kick.

Joe Hart preventing fan from reaching Rio.

Yaya toure pulled one back for City.

Man city players dejected after defeat.
The most anticipated and fascinating match was indeed the Manchester derby at Etihad stadium. The match was surrounded by some surprising turn of events. The match started with a surprising move by City manager Mancini who included out of form  Balotelli ahead of  inform Tevez. As expected United were the team to draw first blood.Rooney's strike put United in front. Then some minutes later Rooney followed it up with another goal.Mario Balotelli had little impact on game.Kompany leaving the field due to injury made matters worse for City . Tevez however replaced Mario later. His presence on the field infused life into City. After some improved display City struck back with a goal from Yaya Toure.City continued to prevail in much of the second half.Zaboletta's strike brought back City on level with United in the dying stages of the game. However United had the last laugh as RVP's brilliant free kick sealed the fate for City. What followed was something which we would not like to see again on the football field. After RVP's splendid strike a City fan threw a metal object on the field which badly injured Rio Ferdinand.Such a fascinating game ended on a sad and violent note.

Messi thanking the crowd after breaking Mueller's record.

Erstwhile in Spain Barcelona continued its magnificient run with wins against Real Betis and Athletico Madrid.Lionel Messi also overhauled Mueller's record with ease.On the other hand Real Madrid slumped further .Also a lot of hype was surrounded around Athletico vs Barca game .But Barca showed again why they are the most dangerous team in the world by comfortably beating Athletico.

Theres a lot to look forward to this weekend. Champions League last 16 draw is due on Thursday.Manchester United face a tough opponent in Swansea City this weekend.Arsenal's match has been postponed to mid January due to groundworks at the stadium.
But most of the Barca fans woke up to sad news that Barca's Manager Tito Vilonova will be undergoing surgery for brain tumour and will be out for 2 months. His assistant will take his place in the interim. After this week teams will take much needed Christmas break.

Wednesday 5 December 2012

Well  I already told you how Messi has scored 84 goals in this year.He is set to break the Mueller's record. He is within the reach of that milestone. He has excellent chance to break it today in the champions league game vs Benfica. What really amazes me that he has got more than a month to do so.

Messi celebrating.
However, heres the breakdown of Messi's goals this year.
  1. FOR BARCELONA-72
  • LALIGA-54
  • UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-13
  • COPA DEL REY-3
  • IN SPANISH SUPER CUP-2
  1. FOR ARGENTINA-12
  • IN INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES-7
  • IN WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS-5

More records by Messi this year
  • 9 hattricks for both Barca and Argentina.
Records most probable to be broken in future.
  • Paulino Alcantara's record of most goals for Barcelona ever .
  • Raul's record for most no of goals in Champions league.
  • Telmo Zarra's record of most league goals.
Well he has got more than 8 t0 10 years of football left in him.So expect him to break most of the records of football history if not all.

Here are some of the famous quotes on Messi:-

"When you play against such a player (Messi), then you always want his shirt"-Michal Kadlec

"I have seen the player who will inherit my place in Argentine football and his name is Messi. Messi is a genius and he can become an even better player. His potential is limitless and I think he’s got everything it takes to become Argentina’s greatest player "-Diego Maradona

"He’s a unique player and he deserves it, because he can do things of almost imperceptible excellence and is a gem to watch "-Frank Rijkaard

"It is clear that Messi is on a level above all others. Those who do not see that are blind"-Xavi

"He’s like a PlayStation"-Arsene Wenger

"I believe that I played well against Barcelona, the problem was that Lionel Messi was simply unstoppable"-Johnny Heitinga

"It is as if someone commands him from the stands, like a video game. I have never seen a human run with the ball at that speed. I have not seen Maradona so I cannot compare, but Messi is simply unbeatable"-Mikel Arteta

"The best? Messi”-Marcello Lippi

“He is a spectacular player, there is nobody else like him. I should not because I have suffered so much in training. I think he is the best forward at the moment and I think he will be so for many more years. He has his feet on the ground.”-Carles Puyol

"I knew when we gave Kaka the FIFA World Player of the Year award that he (messi) would become the best player in the world. With young people like him we need patience and that is the problem we have in Brazil."-Pele

“Ronaldinho is better than Cristiano Ronaldo, but neither are as good as Leo Messi.”-Antonio Cassano

“The best way to stop Messi is when you play with 11 men and then you can double mark him, one player to stay on him and the other to help out. If it is 11 against 10 then you have almost no chance of stopping him.”-Jose Mourinho

"His speed is astonishing. It’s amazing how he can go 1 to 100 in just one second. I’m constantly around great players like Cristiano and Rooney, But this guy is just a step up above every other great footballer out there at the moment, Not only is he quick, determined, and extremely intelligent on the ball, but his movement off the ball is just as fantastic – unbelievable to sum it up in a word.”-Carlos Tevez

“Without Messi there isn’t a team for Argentina, Messi is brilliant, different, with a strong mentality. Let’s hope he doesn’t change.”-Julio Grondona

“He is priceless. Right now, in Messi, Barcelona has the best soccer player on planet Earth.”-Txiki Begiristain

Messi-the goal scoring machine.

Hello guys !I know its been a long time since the previous post. Now let me start my blogging experience with a post on the greatest footballer of this generation-Lionel Messi.

Yeah you heard it right.Messi is the greatest footballer of this generation (though most people would  disagree that he hasn't achieved much for his nation).Well as far his club record is anything to go by,he looks set to enter the record books as the greatest football player of all time.He is the all time leading scorer for FC Barcelona in the official matches.  As I write this post,he is on the verge of becoming the highest scorer in a single calendar year for both club and country. At present, this record is held by former Bayern Munich star Gerd Mueller who scored 85 goals in 1972 .(Messi is just short of two goals to break it).Certainly he is going to break the record this year.

Messi wears the famous no.10 jersey for both club and country.
Messi exhibits great display while dribbling and he is very good in the penalty area.He is certainly a prolific goal scorer which is quite evident when we look at his records. He has already scored most goals for Barcelona(in official matches) which itself is a great feat considering the no of greats who have played for Barcelona.Along with Cristiano Ronaldo ,he is the most prolific goal scorer of this era.It only remains to be seen whether this great sportsman goes to achieve his ultimate dream -winning world cup for Argentina. If that ever happens his name will be imbibed in the list of all time greats.
He is also in the contention for winning Ballon d'Or this year along with Ronaldo and Iniesta. He has already won it three times and looks all set to pick up his fourth with his terrific record this year.
Messi playing for Argentina.

He pretty much plays like  Argentinian legend Maradona. His play reminds me of Maradona. He has rewritten all the records in club football. No one really knows how many more records he is going to break. But one thing is for sure,he is not going to stop any time sooner.

There is no doubt about the ability of this player. He has achieved everything for his club.No club title has been elusive for this great. It just remains to be seen whether he will achieve the most coveted title in football world-FIFA World Cup Championship for his nation.Well  I hope he does it in the near future for all his fans and his country.
